Can you stomach this? – Celiac disease

Gluten can be found in many cereal plants. Especially a lot of it is in wheat, barley, rye, and oats. It is also preserved in products made from this raw material. The organism of some people does not absorb this component. In this case, we talk about celiac disease – a gluten disease. Can you stomach this?

This issue has not yet been fully explored. But already there are materials confirming that the propensity to this disease has a genetic character. Often, gluten intolerance is transmitted in a straight line from generation to generation. If in a family someone has celiac disease, the probability that it will be confirmed by brothers or sisters or children will be 10%. This figure is 10 times higher than the average. Immunological sensitization to this substance is considered the second cause of gluten intolerance development. Antibodies appear in the blood, specific for the components of gluten and for the enzymes involved in metabolism. The tendency to autoimmune bowel disease can exist in people who do not even know about it. It develops under the influence of stress, diseases of a viral origin, rheumatic lesions.

Among the most common symptoms can be identified:

  • weight loss,
  • diarrhea of unknown origin,
  • swollen abdomen,
  • weakness,
  • low working capacity.

Symptoms of this disease in children are similar to those of adults, but still differ in some features:

  • prolonged diarrhea (more than one week),
  • absence of weight gain with full-fledged feeding,
  • flatulence or gas formation exceeding the normal rate,
  • fatigue.

If adults caring for a baby mark him or her with the described symptoms, then they need to exclude celiac disease from a possible list of pathologies. Symptoms of celiac disease are similar in many ways to the symptoms of other diseases. Therefore, for accurate diagnosis, it is necessary to conduct laboratory tests. Among the modern diagnostic tools are the following laboratory tests:

  • a blood test for the detection of specific antibodies,
  • endoscopy with biopsy of the small intestine,
  • appropriate stool examination in the laboratory.

The celiac disease belongs to autoimmune diseases. It manifests itself in the inflammation of the intestinal walls under the influence of gluten entering the area. This reaction occurs because the immune cells belong to gluten as a dangerous substance and respond to its appearance by the splash of a large number of antibodies. These antibodies can be detected in laboratory diagnostics.

The disease is fundamentally different from other pathologies in that for the correction of the condition the patient does not need injections, pills, and so on. Nevertheless, all these can be bought in an online pharmacy even with no prescription. The main means of combating manifestations of celiac disease is a gluten-free diet. To make it proceed without complications and side effects, the patient must have comprehensive information about the features of his or her condition and possible consequences.

Celiac disease is not at all the situation when you need to panic and drop your hands down. You can change the clinical picture following certain recommendations. Compliance with the diet does not even worsen the quality of life. It just makes certain adjustments to the routine. Taking this pathology as a new way of life, a person ceases to be different from absolutely healthy people.

To build a diet, you need to take into account the following information: the average amount of gluten that an ordinary person consumes is 10-35 g a day. In particular, one piece of white bread includes approximately 5 g of gluten. If you want to eat a plate of wheat porridge, you need to remember about 6 g of gluten. To provoke inflammation in the walls of the intestine, you must eat only 0.1 g of this substance. In fact, a few small pieces of bread will provoke this state. Therefore, only the complete elimination of all dangerous substances can become a guarantee of your well-being.
